Outdoor advertising in the UK includes billboards, banners, boards at sports events, posters on bus shelters, taxis, and buses. Traditionally the major users of outdoor advertising have been tobacco and drink advertisers.
In the past, these two sectors dominated 68% of outdoor media usage. However improvements in quality, and creativity in outdoor advertising have resulted in a wider range of advertisers using the media. The top three advertisers now being the automotive, food, and entertainment industries. Top of the spending chart in the UK are Nestle, who in 2000 spent in the region of £15 million on outdoor advertising.
